Kent State graduate's photos with AR-10 and cap go viral

In April, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student named Brenna Spencer shocked many by posing for a graduation photo wearing a "Women for Trump" T-shirt and a handgun sticking out of the waistband of her white jeans.

The photo of Kaitlin Bennett also showed her holding a graduation cap with the phrase "come and take it" written on it. Bennett graduated from the university over the weekend, reports WJW.

In an interview with Campus Reform, Bennett explained her protest further, saying, "Kent State University is a school in which the government shot four unarmed students 48 years ago".

Those students were killed when guardsmen fired during a mass protest at the school's campus against the US bombing of Cambodia.

"You don't see a lot of things going viral about students who are pro-second amendment and pro-gun rights that don't believe in gun control", said Bennett.

"I have no apologies for my graduation photos", she wrote. "I graduated & the left did not win".

Kent State University's policy prohibits students, staff, and third parties doing business with the university from having a deadly weapon inside buildings and outside campus grounds, according to WKYC. Visitors can, however, outside on public property.

"I'm glad that my photos are making headlines, because my intent was to start a discussion about gun rights on college campuses", Bennett told USA TODAY. "Why are guests more important than the students who are paying thousands of dollars to attend the university?" "They say they're against violence, but then they say they want to kill me".

Kaitlyn Bell isn't the only college graduate to post graduation pictures showing off the right to bear a gun. "Kent became an open-carry campus in the past year and there were many protests from that, the incident of May 4 not forgotten".

Bennett called the university out on Twitter for touting their safety ranking, and wrote that her cameraman had been assaulted "for supporting the 2nd amendment". Twitter evidently suspended the Twitter user's account.

She was with her family and her boyfriend Sunday, the day after she graduated, when the photo was taken, she said.
