Man City want Aguero and Sterling to stay, insists Pep Guardiola

Agüero has scored 30 goals for Manchester City this season

Pep Guardiola does not want Sergio Aguero to leave Manchester City and has told the Argentina striker he can remain with the Premier League champions for as long as he wants.

The Argentine forward has bagged 30 goals across all competitions this season, although he is now nursing a knee injury.

However, reports surfacing in Spanish media claims Atletico Madrid made contact with Aguero's representatives over a sensational return to the club, as they look to prepare themselves of a possible departure of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona.

He scored the goal that saw City set a new record of Premier League goals in a season before Fernandinho went on to extend their tally to 105.

Guardiola said: "I think it's not going to happen".

But, linked to Burnley, Wolves and Everton, he could yet be facing Pep Guardiola's side next season as he said he would not be chasing riches from clubs in the UAE, Saudia Arabia, Qatar or the Far East.

"I say not too much, maybe players want to play more and want to leave, but not too many", he added.

Provided such stars stay in place, Guardiola does not envisage a busy close season in the transfer market following last year's successful overhaul.

One more in the final game would see Silva become the club's seventh player this term to reach double figures across all competitions after Sergio Aguero (30), Raheem Sterling (23), Gabriel Jesus (16), Leroy Sane (14), Kevin De Bruyne (12) and David Silva (10).

Guardiola said: "As long as I'm a coach at Manchester City, he's not going to go anywhere".

The Portuguese has featured in all but four of City's 56 games this season but only 27 of them have been starts. From the goals, the play, the passing, the passion and the team spirit, it's the best we have ever seen.

Before becoming Manchester City manager in 2008, Mark Hughes was unbeaten against them in the Premier League (W4 D4 L0). I always enjoy working with good people and he is one of them.

"It's not easy to qualify for the Champions League so to qualify for two years in a row - with the teams that would miss out, and hopefully we're not one of them - is very hard. They didn't play because of my decisions".
