Marvel's 'Agents of SHIELD' Renewed for Shortened Season 6 on ABC

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows an elite group of agents who investigate unusual occurrences. Executive producer Jeff Bell told EW that they thought this season would be it: "Right now, we're writing a series end because as far as we know, this could be it".

The creative minds behind the series didn't think they would get picked up for another season.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning. Many fans assumed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 would serve as a mid-season replacement and lead into the second part of Avengers: Infinity War. The series, which marked Marvel Television's first live-action scripted drama before the comic book powerhouse spread its wings to cable and streaming, had run 22 episodes a season for its first five runs and is nearing its endgame. The show was meant to be an offshoot of the big screen MCU, tying into events of the films, but that close connectivity proved to be almost impossible to do on a larger scale since films take two years to make and television is written, shot, produced, and aired in a matter of weeks.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back for a sixth season that contains 13 episodes, shorter than usual. This series follows the agents who were transported to the future to find that the world had been destroyed.

The season five finale of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs on ABC this Friday, May 18. That said, Season 6 will nearly certainly have to acknowledge the fact that Show Spoiler half of the known universe has vanished with the snap of Thanos' finger.
