Microsoft reveals Surface Hub 2, its all-new interactive whiteboard

The reduced weight and size allow the Surface Hub 2 to sit on a rolling easel-like stand for portability or mount to a wall - in a blog post, Microsoft said it's working with Steelcase to produce wall mounts and stands. Digital whiteboards seem to be gradually becoming the new fad among companies for getting in the corporate space.

Surface Hub 2 looks a lot sleeker and more portable than Surface Hub 1 and was built for "immersive collaboration", Seiler said. Microsoft's new Surface Hub 2's design is a huge leap forward from the first-gen Surface Hub, and it looks absolutely lovely.

It rocks a 50.5in display, which is around five inches smaller than its predecessor but comes in a 4K resolution rather than 1080p, and has a 3:2 aspect ratio, slim bezels and can be flipped horizontally as well as sit vertically.

The Surface Hub 2 allows the user to rotate the screen between portrait and landscape modes, with a nifty mechanism on the rear facilitating this. An 84-inch panel came with a hot price too, $21,999. Imagine how much your team could get done being able to work simultaneously across Microsoft Whiteboard, PowerBI, PowerPoint, and a full view video call. Now Surface Hub 2 takes it even further with multi-user sign in.

Surface Hub 2 was designed from the ground up to be used by teams - to get people out of their seats, to connect and ideate, regardless of location. And though not specifically mentioned by Panos Panay, it looks as though Surface Hub 2 will also have a thumbprint login system for Windows Hello, which can be seen at the 47-second mark in the video above. There's also something called "Dynamic Rotation" which will automatically adjust the content whenever you rotate the display. When mounted on a wall, up to four Surface Hub 2s can be daisy-chained, allowing them to function separately, or project a cohesive picture that straddles more than one Surface Hub 2. Despite the rumours and speculations, Microsoft remains totally committed to the Surface Hub product line.

The Surface Hub 2, which Microsoft will begin testing later this year and ship some time in 2019, is the successor to Surface Hub 1, which launched in March 2016.
