Milla Jovovich To Star In Monster Hunter Adaptation

Resident Evil film director and star to tackle Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter: World has been massively successful with the franchise transitioning from cult to mainstream, so there's even more incentive for Capcom and Anderson to strike while the iron's hot.

Variety has "re-announced" that a Monster Hunter movie based on Capcom's series is now in the works with Paul W.S. Anderson in the director's chair and Milla Jovovich set to star. Anderson is credited as writer and director, as the idea has been a passion project of his for some years now.

Milla Jovovich should be already known to most gamers as she was cast to be the main character in the Resident Evil film series.

Oh, and speaking of Mortal Kombat movies.

The film will shoot in and around Cape Town, South Africa.

Two territories carved out of that deal will be Germany and Switzerland, where Constantin, Germany's biggest independent production-distribution company, will release the movie itself.

Due to the popularity of the video game series, we are now going to see a Hollywood version in a film adaptation.

That leaves much more of a blank canvas for any potential movie adaptation, although there's no indication what approach this first attempt will take other than it will apparently be "highly stylish". "We are very much in a comfort zone of production". "Paul has proven over and over he does stylish movies", he added. It's one of his big strong points. On Wednesday the Japanese developer and game publisher announced that "Monster Hunter: World" is its best-selling game of all time, shipping 7.9 million copies since its late January release.

One thing looks certain: Anderson will not return to direct.
