Musk shows first underground LA tunnel for high-speed Loop system

The Boring Company recently confirmed that it plans to make “an insane amount of bricks” with the “excavated muck” it has from tunnel digging projects

The Boring Company, Musk's audacious dream to create an underground transport system by boring tunnels beneath Los Angeles, has almost completed its first test bore.

Elon Musk on Thursday posted footage of a prototype vehicle tunnel bored underneath Los Angeles, saying it would be available for people to use in a matter of months. The future price for a ride will be a little lower than a bus ticket.

The executive says Boring Co is already started on its East Coast route from Washington DC to NY. "A big thank you to everyone who helped in this project", wrote Elon Musk in Instagram.

He has also tweeted about a vision for a tunnel that would stretch along the Interstate 405 corridor from LAX to U.S. Highway 101 in the San Fernando Valley, a span of about 17 miles.

He said that, pending regulatory approval, the company will be offering free rides to the public within months. Such rides would presumably involve rolling down the tunnel's track on the pods that would eventually become part of the Boring Company's transit system, with priority given to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Last year Musk talked about a 2 mile proof of concept tunnel.

The Creator of the tunnel, the company Mask The Boring Company is waiting for approval from the authorities to launch, reports Electrek.

"Super huge thanks to everyone that helped with this project", he continued. "Strong support from public, elected officials & regulators is critical to success", said Musk.

The tunnel is an expansion to the first test of the digging equipment and techniques used, which produced a 100-metre passage starting at the SpaceX carpark in Hawthorne, LA.
