The EBU said in a statement this evening: "On the 9th of May, Chinese broadcaster Mango TV broadcast the first Semi-Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest live but two performances were censored".

The values of celebrating diversity, inclusivity and equality are very much at the heart of the Eurovision Song Contest.

In response shadow culture minister Steve Reed added: "Can I start by wishing good luck to SuRie, the United Kingdom entry in the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night?"

Lisbon's riverside Praca do Comercio has been converted into a buzzing "Eurovision Village", complete with bars and food trucks, which will broadcast the final on a giant outdoor screen.

Of the countries participating in the second semi-final to reach the final failed Romania, San Marino, Russia, Georgia, Poland, Malta, Latvia and Montenegro.

Russian Federation had previously threatened to block the broadcast of O'Shaughnessy's performance but ultimately backed down on the issue.

Mango TV also reportedly censored the performance of the Albanian delegations because of visible tattoos.

Ryan's performance featured a gay couple holding hands, which makes history as Ireland is the first country to feature a same-sex couple in Eurovision.

Ryan has launched a new social media campaign - #LoveisLove - and is urging fans to take a picture with a loved on a bench and post it to social media using #LoveisLove #Together and #Ireland.

Ryan's backing dancers, Alan McGrath and Kevin O'Dwyer, said they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received so far in Lisbon.

The broadcaster was dropped by the contest's organising body the EBU after censoring two performances during Tuesday's semi-final.

Sobral, 28, who said after his win that "music is not fireworks, music is feeling", turned down the lights and simply swayed to the music as he performed "Amar pelos dois" ("Love for Two"), a song penned by his sister.
