Restrictions on Pakistani diplomats U.S. will implement in today

The US has approved the appointment of a prominent Pakistani investment banker Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as the country's new envoy in Washington, media reports said on Thursday, amidst the impasse over imposition of restrictions on the movement of diplomats in each others' country.

According to The News, Ambassador Chaudhry said the travel restrictions cover two-tier officials stationed in the United States bearing visa categories of A1, and A2 and also the members of their families, including children.

The United States has made a decision to impose travel restrictions on and limit the movement of Pakistani diplomats.

The US restrictions on Pakistani Diplomats will be effective from Friday, 11 May. However, US diplomats are already prohibited to visit FATA and other high-security areas. We believe that matters can be solved.

Congressman Norcross said, "We are starting to work on having a much more productive relationship, Afghan-Pakistan terrorism has been a huge issue and it does not just affect our country but also your country", he said.

Hours before the proposed restriction goes into effect in the US, American lawmakers reminded the Trump administration that it was not a smart thing to do.

Addressing a meeting of the Pakistani American Congress on Capitol Hill, a Congressman, Donald Norcros, called for dialogue to ease tension, adding, "And if (by imposing those restrictions) we are inhibiting conversation, I do not think that's a smart thing to do". "We share the same objectives".

This is the first time for Pakistani diplomats serving in America and their families face such travel regulations, whereas in the past USA governments have practised such codes on Russian and Chinese officials.

Aizaz Chaudhry also confirmed that in this duration both countries debated a "mechanism to address the issue". He has accused the Pakistanis of giving safe haven to terrorists the U.S. is fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan.
