Ronan Farrow on Harvey Weinstein’s Arrest: ‘This is a Moment of Vindication’

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was charged with rape and a sex crime in NY on Friday, in what was hailed a landmark for the #MeToo movement, almost eight months after his career imploded in a blaze of accusations of misconduct.

On Friday, she was floored by the scene of Weinstein surrendering to authorities in NY.

In a statement delivered outside court, Harvey's lawyer said the star intends to plead not guilty to all charges. Weinstein's arrest is the result of a joint investigation between police and the Manhattan District Attorney's office, the police said. Evans, a former college student and aspiring actress, says she was forced to perform oral sex on Weinstein in 2004 despite repeatedly telling him "no". The rape charge stems from an allegation by a woman who has not been publicly identified.

Almost 100 women have come forward in the past seven months, accusing the film producer of sexual assault.

Despite being charged with rape and a criminal sex act, today, the disgraced movie producer still maintains his innocence.

Weinstein's scandal, and the horrifying stories that followed, created a snowball effect in Hollywood.

Allegations against Weinstein were presented to D.A. Vance's office previously in 2015, when model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez told police that the producer had allegedly groped her. Several actresses and models accused him of criminal sexual assaults, but numerous encounters happened too long ago for any prosecution.

More investigations around Weinstein are underway.

The Manhattan district attorney's office and NY police have investigated Harvey Weinstein for months, coming under growing pressure from the Time's Up movement to bring the disgraced producer to justice. He will be back in court on July 30. He will have to wear an ankle monitor and stay away from his accusers.

- rose mcgowan (@rosemcgowan) May 25, 2018McGowan accused Weinstein of rape in a separate incident than those in Weinstein's charges.

Lucia told the publication: "I said, over and over, 'I don't want to do this, stop, don't'". "It's both", she said.

Officers in the United Kingdom have received 15 separate allegations of sexual assault on dates ranging from the 1980s up until three years ago. Reps for Weinstein have consistently denied that he has ever engaged in non-consensual sex.

That said, he was charged with first-degree rape and sexual abuse.

London's Metropolitan Police confirmed in February 2018 that it was investigating Weinstein after 10 women came forward with sexual assault allegations, according to the Associated Press.

Weinstein's career went down in flames in October over sexual assault allegations following explosive articles in The New York Times and New Yorker, which sparked a sexual harassment reckoning across the United States, in multiple industries.

Before turning himself in, Weinstein had been spotted enjoying lunch in Malibu on Wednesday in a photo obtained by TMZ.
