Snapchat has caved in to demands to reinstate the old Snapchat look.

"When we separated friends' Stories from creator Stories [last November], we also moved them to the left side of the camera and merged them into the Chat feed".

Snapchat has caved to its users and put stories back where they used to be, on the right hand window.

But Snapchat's redesign, which it first revealed back in November, was an unmitigated disaster for the company and was even partially blamed for its poor financial results last week.

"We learned that combining watching Stories and communicating with friends into the same place made it harder to optimize for both competing behaviors", he said.

Snap has announced that it has begun rolling out a redesign to its Snapchat app to the "majority" of iOS users.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel has always defended his decision to move stories telling shareholders, "People are saying, 'I used to feel like this celebrity was my friend and now they're not my friend anymore.' Exactly".

Satisfaction levels for the app among current users aged 18-34 has followed a similar trajectory. A Change.org petition concerning the update attracted more than 1.2 million signatures from disgruntled users. Instagram has undoubtedly taken over the social media landscape and Snapchat will need something much more powerful than a redesign to come back into the game, increasing investor pressure as time goes on.

Subsequently, Snap acknowledged that the "new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many", with the latest update being an attempt to address numerous requested changes. Just at the end of the a year ago, the company had introduced a new design which caused a lot of anger among users. "We are already starting to see early signs of stabilisation".
