When the Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning close out the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday (8:00 p.m.; WFED 1500AM), it will be the 11th career Game 7 for both Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.
The Capitals have waited even longer in playing for Lord Stanley's Cup having last been in the Finals in 1998.
"[Wednesday] is probably biggest game in my life, this team, this organization", said Ovechkin, who has three goals and six points in his 10 previous Game 7s. You know what I mean.
"We're really happy but we're not finished, not done yet", Ovechkin added.
"It's really hard to win the Stanley Cup, and if you're going to measure every year strictly on it's a failure if we win or not, I don't think I look at it that way", Yzerman said.
Ovechkin also praised goaltender Braden Holtby, stating the Canadian was "unstoppable" as he became only the fifth goalie in National Hockey League play-off history to register shutouts in games six and seven, making 60 saves across the two matches.
The winner will advance to play the Vegas Golden Knights, and Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman said that he, along with Kucherov, Vasilevskiy and center Steven Stamkos must step up in the biggest game of the season, to help them reach the Cup Final for the second time in four seasons.
Based on the last two rounds, the Capitals should be able to handle the Golden Knights relentless speed game. "A couple of goals in Game 7", Cooper said.
"You may say that", Kuznetsov said after the Capitals eliminated the Penguins, "but for me it's probably still the goal against the Islanders".
The team now plays the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup final, which begins on Monday.
"We're not going to be suck this year", he said. But Ovechkin and Backstrom's single-minded journey in Washington is partially why Hedman chose to remain in Tampa Bay when both he and Stamkos' contracts came up in 2016.
Ovechkin scored just over a minute into Washington's 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final Wednesday night.
Despite facing a rambunctious crowd of Lightening fans in Tampa, Alex Ovechkin scored the game-opening goal for the Caps after just 62 seconds and they went on to beat the home team in a convincing fashion.
The GM, however, rejected the notion that somehow the season was a failure because a team with such high expectations didn't get back to the championship round.
Game 7 is tonight right here in the sunshine state.
Burakovsky's first goal of the postseason gave the Capitals a 2-0 edge with 11:01 to play in the second period.
"But for us", Holtby continued, "it's just that 'W'".
For numerous Lightning players, they have been in this situation before as the core of Tampa Bay has been pretty much intact for the past four years.
