Apple's 2019 iPhones to finally adopt USB-C, rumor says

Image Apple began working on the USB issue before learning it was popularly used by police

Better late than never may be an apt expression to describe Apple's recent decision to finally join the rest of the premium smartphone industry and adopt the USB Type-C port for charging and connectivity. Apple is still in its redesign phase and will not be able to equip the technology in its upcoming iPhones, the sources claimed. While the reversible, fairly resilient USB-C connector is the most appealing USB design to date - and already used for charging current MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops - it's slightly larger than the Lightning ports on current iPads and iPhones.

Not only is USB Type-C a far more robust option than the current Lightning connector in terms of bandwidth but it will also help alleviate the woes of owning a litany of connectors and adapters that iPhone users now have to wrestle with. Except for being a common standard, USB-C has no other advantage over Lightning connector in a smartphone.

That would replace the Lightning port that has been in use since the iPhone 5 in 2012.

On the surface, the report is easy to take with multiple grains of salt, as prior rumors to the same effect have all proved inaccurate, and supply chain claims are notoriously questionable.

If you've been anxiously waiting for Apple to bring USB-C to its smartphones in some form, it looks like you'll have to replenish your patience once more.
