Arsenal in talks for Lucas Torreira of Sampdoria

Arsenal agree £26.4m deal to sign Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira

Arsenal are willing to pay a higher sum so they can spread out the payments in instalments.

Negotiations have been ongoing between the Gunners and the Serie A club and it seems, following news of the two clubs agreeing a deal for the transfer, personal terms between Arsenal and Torreira have been agreed.

Arsenal's swoop for Torreira has been signed off by the club's new head coach Unai Emery, who wants to strengthen his midfield options.

It emerged over the weekend that Gunners bosses registered their interest with Torreira's agent Pablo Bentancur.

As such, Claudio Gomes and Dan-Axel Zagadou have left for the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in recent times.

Arsenal are prepared to pay the €25m release clause in Torreira's contract, while Napoli have been looking to reach a negotiated settlement.

He has become a key player at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and is now ranked among the best defensive midfielders in Serie A. Torreira has one Uruguay cap and was included in Óscar Tabárez's World Cup squad for the tournament in Russian Federation this summer.

Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti has warned interested parties they will not consider offers worth less than Torreira's release clause.

He joined Sampdoria in the summer of 2015 from fellow Italian side Pescara and has gone on to make 74 appearances.
