Banksy print thief filmed walking artwork out of gallery

An original print by street artist Banksy was stolen from an unauthorized exhibition in Toronto

Toronto police said it is investigating the theft of the print, made famous British artist of street art, Banksy (Banksy), from the buildings on the West side of the city.

Trolley Hunters, a work depicting Neanderthal-like men hunting modern shopping carts and regarded as a satirical critique of modern food consumption, is valued as high as $26,000.

Its value is estimated at C$45,000 (S$46,000).

It includes around 80 original pieces and has been billed as the largest ever collection of Banksy's work, believed to be worth over $35 million in total. "Due to the investigation, we will not be commenting further at this time".

"It's a attractive piece and we hope to get it back", said Ross, adding that he would not comment further during the police investigation.

The footage, released by Toronto Police, shows how brazen the art thief was.

A man can be seen on video making his way through the door and into the exhibit, reports Daily Mail.

The exhibit in Toronto is scheduled to run until July 11.

It marks the third such high-profile theft in Toronto this year. In March, a woman was seen on video making off with a stone from Yoko Ono's installation "The Riverbed" at the Gardiner Museum on which the artist had written "Love Yourself", valued at $22,000.

Banksy artworks often appear overnight, but they don't tend to disappear, as a print from an exhibition in Canada has done. The heist became the subject of a 2016 documentary, The Banksy Job.
