Claire Underwood in House of Cards' final season: See new photos

Now Wright's Claire Underwood (wife of Spacey's Frank Underwood) is president of the United States, and you can take a look at the new leader of the free world in the first images from this final season.

It is ironic that Netflix chose to release first-look images from the upcoming sixth and final season of House Of Cards during the Tony Awards, hosted previous year by the series' former star Kevin Spacey.

Spacey, who played the scheming politician during the first five seasons, was sacked after multiple men and women accused him of sexual misconduct in the wake of Harvey Weinstein scandal.

Some cast additions for the next season include Greg Kinnear, Diane Lane and Cody Fern who join the established cast of Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Campbell Scott, Derek Cecil, Patricia Clarkson, and Constance Zimmer. They don't reveal a release date, but they do say the season will come out later this year, hinting at a fall release. As a result, the season had to be reconfigured and episodes went through reshoots to factor in his absence.

In the first teaser for season 6, which will be the show's final run, we were introduced to the new status quo: Frank Underwood's gone and there's a new President in town.

Golden Globe victor and Emmy Award nominee Robin Wright returns as Claire Underwood, the President of the United States in the series.

The last season of House of Cards ended with Claire taking over the presidency from her husband, Frank, and ignoring his desperate calls for a presidential pardon. The series was created by Beau Willimon and is produced by Donen/Fincher/Roth, with MRC as the studio, for Netflix.
