John Boyega gives ‘rude’ Star Wars fans a piece of his mind

George Lucas on the set of The Phantom Menace

In a 2015 Vanity Fair cover story that previewed The Force Awakens, director J.J. Abrams said that Lucas' Star Wars sequel trilogy would have focused on "very young characters" (with Lucasfilm saying that the characters would've been teenagers), but Disney and Lucasfilm distanced from that vision and ended up with older protagonists. "Even if you paid for a ticket!"

Boyega tweeted, "If you don't like Star Wars or the characters understand that there are decisions makers and harassing the actors/ actresses will do nothing".

While we haven't exactly seen the Whills themselves in the Star Wars movies, they have been mentioned before. Pick it up today for $6.60 ($US5).

Tran, who starred in Star Wars: Last Jedi, didn't specify the reason for deleting all her Instagram posts, but that didn't stop folks from speculating after trolls flooded her comments with "racist and sexist vulgarities", reports THR.

For some fans who did not take too well to the director's prequel trilogy (which, for the record, I actually enjoyed, even though they weren't perfect), that is probably a huge sigh of relief, but for many it leaves them wondering just what could've been, especially given the controversies around Rian Johnson's Episode VIII, which many fans did not like. Boyega wrote, adding a shrugging man emoji.

A better or worse idea than Jar Jar Binks
A better or worse idea than Jar Jar Binks

Disney's new Star Wars movies are proving incredibly divisive among fans, in particular The Last Jedi, but things apparently wouldn't have been much different had George Lucas held on to Lucasfilm.

But he was taking no shit from anyone who didn't acknowledge the cruelty of the campaign against Tran. Mark Hamill also tweeted his support for his co-star, including a photo of him and Tran together with the caption "What's not to love?" I never got to tell people about it.

It's worth noting that Tran isn't the only female "Star Wars" star who has seemingly been driven off of social media following harassment.

According to The Guardian, an online hate group have claimed responsibility for the attacks on Tran, in a since-deleted Facebook post.

Tran quit Insty nearly two years after her cast mate Daisy Ridley also quit the site, she too having been harangued by "fans" for expressing support for the family members of the victims of gun violence.
