Jon Bernthal officially returning to 'The Walking Dead'

Gather your horde and head to Hall H – as it appears that The Walking Dead will be shambling back to San Diego Comic Con this year with a Hall H panel

After rumors started circulating, it has now been confirmed that original cast member Jon Bernthal will return for one episode of the series' ninth season. The actor has appeared in numerous critically-acclaimed films like "Baby Driver", "Fury", "The Wolf of Wall Street", and "Sicario".

TVLine reports that Bernthal - who starred on AMC's zombie drama for its first two seasons and now leads The Punisher - will be returning for one episode of Season 9. It makes sense that the series would reflect on Rick's journey over the course of the series, and Shane was a major part of that journey in the show's early seasons. He also now stars in the Marvel-Netflix series "The Punisher", a role he originated in Season 2 of "Daredevil". Bernthal played Shane Walsh, Lincoln's character Rick Grimes' pre-apocalypse patrol partner who became his post-apocalypse leadership rival after he hooked up with Rick's wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) when they thought Rick was dead.

But as others have noted, "The Walking Dead" has a habit of playing around with time.

But "The Walking Dead" was at its best when Bernthal was around and Shane was still alive. Fans know that he met a fairly definitive end after being stabbed by Rick and then, once he was a zombie, shot in the head by Carl.

We don't cover The Walking Dead much here at BMD because, real talk, we all stopped watching it years ago.
