Kansas City In The Running To Host World Cup Soccer In 2026

FIFA World Cup Fan 2018 Fest Rocks Off in Moscow

Mexico hosted the 1986 World Cup, while the U.S. was awarded the tournament in 1994 but Canada, who have appeared just once at the tournament, have never hosted.

In a vote of more than 200 member nations of soccer's governing body in Moscow, the so-called United Bid beat out Morocco, 134-65. It will be the first time since 1994 that the USA will have hosted the monthlong soccer extravaganza, and will come two years before Los Angeles welcomes back the 2028 Summer Olympics. Their lone opponent was Morocco.

Arturo Sarukhan, a diplomat who first proposed the idea of a joint Mexico-United States bid in 2010 when he was Mexico's ambassador in Washington, said he believed at the time it would show how Mexico's relationship with the United States "had changed and matured".

In the US, 60 World Cup matches will be played across 10 cities.

The current blueprint calls for Canada and Mexico to get 10 each with the United States hosting 60, including all games from the quarterfinals on.

The winning bid, also shared with Mexico and Canada, was announced early Wednesday.

Launched on June 1, 2016, Daily Hive is the evolution of Vancity Buzz and is now in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. This effort was an enormous priority for former U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati and his successor Carlos Cordeiro and the victorious effort could be an enormous boost to the sport in the United States. Canada has never hosted a men's World Cup, though it was the site of the 2015 Women's World Cup.

North American officials have promised to deliver $14 billion in revenue from the event.

The vote was conducted on the eve of the 2018 World Cup, which is scheduled to kick off Thursday in host nation Russian Federation. "Just awesome. I remember flashback to 94 World Cup".

BS: Not only gifts to potential voters but also the bidders offering to build a stadium in your country in exchange for your vote. One the one hand, the money aspect was probably a big reason why the US -led bid got this World Cup. Hasseltine said. "We want to make sure the legacy lives forever and lives long beyond the games' being here".

"When they help us fight against corruption, of course, we are pleased", Infantino said. But I'm not coming in and saying, "We're going to win the World Cup!".

Five teams from every confederation except for UEFA, plus one additional team from CONCACAF, will take part in an intercontinental playoff tournament to determine the final two slots. Most importantly flowing from that, of course, is a munificence of dollars promised from the tournament for Federation Internationale de Football Association, and therefore for the voting countries.
