Kohli, Dhoni take fitness test at NCA

Virat Kohli MS Dhoni

Kohli, along with Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the injured Kedar Jadhav (not in any squad meant for UK) took the advanced beep test in the first batch.

According to news agency PTI, the right-hand batsman took the test, which is the basic fitness parameter set by the Indian team for selection in the team, along with former captain MS Dhoni at the National Cricket Academy ground. The Indian skipper, who missed this Test and his county stint with Surrey due to a neck strain, looked comfortable during the much-hyped test.

The result of the tests will determine whether he has recovered from the injury or not.

But he was seen feeling his shoulder and back region after the completion of the test.

Nearly all the players including skipper Virat Kohli have comfortably cleared the qualifying mark for the Yo-Yo test. Ambati Rayudu is the only player in the UK-bound squad, who has failed to clear the fitness test. The selectors are set to name his replacement soon. Even if Kohli does pass the test, only an assessment of his neck injury will give the selectors a clear picture on the Indian skipper's availability for the arduous tour of England. In his tour three T20Is, three ODIs and five-match Test series are scheduled.

Once the seniors finished their routine, signed on a sheet of paper and headed indoors, a younger bunch, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Manish Pandey and Siddhart Kaul went through the same process under Basu's watchful eyes.

The Indian team management tried to keep the media away from the NCA and the team security officer did ask the journalists to stay away from the session. However, as fitness continues to remain the top-most priority to get selected in Virat Kohli's Team India, the 36-year-old Dhoni appeared for the mandatory regime at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on Friday. Sanju Samson was also dropped from the India A team as he flunked the test. Before this, Mohamed Shami failed the test and was dropped from India's squad for the one-off Test versus Afghanistan.
