Melania Trump's jacket mixes message during visit to detained immigrant children

The first lady removed the jacket before landing in McAllen - but then wore it again upon her return at Joint Base Andrews. Trump tweeted. News of the first lady's surprise visit made a media splash on the heels of Trump's decision to end family separation with the power of the pen in an executive order.

A spokesperson did confirm that Melania was indeed sporting the jacket with the insensitive message.

The goal of the visit to McAllen, Texas, was "to take part in briefings and tours at a nonprofit social services center for children who have entered the United States illegally and a customs and border patrol processing center", according to a statement released by the White House.

On Thursday, the first lady traveled to Texas to visit migrant children wearing a hooded Zara jacket with the message "I really don't care, do u?". - Pat Cunnane (@PatCunnane) June 21, 2018Melania Trump really wore a jacket that read "I really don't care" when she visited the Border?

People are reacting to Melania Trump's controversial Zara jacket with a style statement of their own. She told children to "be kind and nice to each other" as she left another classroom.

"She wants to see what's happening for herself and she wants to lend her support, executive order or not", Grisham said.

Melania Trump was welcomed by staff at the Upbring New Hope Children's Center as she made an unannounced visit Thursday to the facility that houses 58 unaccompanied migrant children.

Program Director Roy De La Cerda told the first lady that the mostly Guatemalan children typically stay at the center for an average of 42 to 45 days.

"I'm glad I'm here and I'm looking forward to seeing and meeting children, but first of all let me begin to recognize each of you and thanking you for all that you do, for your heroic work that you do every day and what you do for those children", Melania Trump said.

Melania's visit comes just one day after her husband, President Donald Trump, signed an executive order created to end the family-separation policy. However, his policy of criminally prosecuting illegal border-crossers remains. "We don't like to see families separated", Trump said. A White House official followed up Wednesday, saying Mrs. Trump had been making her opinion known to the president that he needed to act to keep migrant families together.
