OnePlus 6 update to OxygenOS 5.1.7 now rolling out

OnePlus 6 update to OxygenOS 5.1.7 now rolling out

The vulnerability was discovered by Edge Security, and at the time, OnePlus had said it would fix the issue in an upcoming software update. Some testing by OnePlus reveals that the Indian variants of the OnePlus 6 were found to be unstable post the update.

According to the changelog, OxygenOS 5.1.7 fixes schedule setting issue for DND, bootloader security bug that had widely been reported, and other bugs and system improvements.

After a number of update since the OnePlus 6 launch, comes another one that is aimed at fixing the device's bootloader vulnerability. If a criminal gets his hands on the device, they can flash malicious code using custom recoveries such as TWRP even when the bootloader is locked, gaining unrestricted access to everything on the phone. It is also coming with all the features of the v5.1.7. Where the former is receiving an update that installs OxygenOS 5.1.7, the 5T is on Open Beta 10 while the standard OnePlus 5 is on Open Beta 12.

This update should be rolling out now to all OnePlus 6 users except in India, where some localized problems have OnePlus holding the update back. The company is working on fix based on the logs received from affected users, and the OxygenOS 5.1.8 update released next week will contain the fix as well as everything else that OxygenOS 5.1.7 brought. The first two updates added a host of new features such as portrait mode on the secondary camera, along with some minor QoL changes (battery percentage next to the indicator).
