Raccoon scales St. Paul office tower, captivating public

The raccoon was first spotted on a ledge Tuesday morning, just a few floors high.

A raccoon stranded on the ledge of a building in the United States city of St Paul, Minnesota, captivated onlookers and generated interest on social media after it started scaling an office building.

The raccoon, which scaled the UBS Tower in St. Paul, has made itself comfortable on a window ledge on the 23rd floor, which MPR News, the public radio station housed in the building, reported is more than 200 feet high.

Eventually, the raccoon settled into a nook next to a window about 20 stories up.

A raccoon scaling a Minnesota skyscraper may be the most popular thing on the internet right now and it's putting many people in a Marvel state of mind - complete with Rocket Raccoon jokes.

Several downtown Twitter users snapped photos Monday of the raccoon stranded on a second-story ledge by the Seventh Street Skyway near Cedar Street.

Raccoons are not typically known for their bravery, but one is scaling the UBS tower in Minnesota with death-defying nerve.

Laurie Brickley, spokeswoman for the city's Department of Safety & Inspections, which oversees animal control, said, "We've been in touch with wildlife organizations. We're hoping it gets to the top so we can set a trap for it there".

Whatever fate awaits the wild creature, it's now achieved whatever level of fame that an animal hits when it gets multiple Twitter accounts.
