Robbie Williams to perform at World Cup opening ceremony

Thomas Meunier Belgium

At the end of its technical meeting ahead of the World Cup finals which gets underway this week in Russia, FIFA announced that changes will be made to the way that the world rankings of worldwide teams are calculated, switching to a method that add or subtracts points from a country's total rather than averaging them over a multi-year period.

Additionally, Russian soprano Aida Garifullina will perform alongside Williams while Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo - a two time World Cup champion - is also present during the opening ceremony, according to Federation Internationale de Football Association.

The football glory that all players will be hoping to achieve on Russian soil will be represented by Brazil's two-time World Cup champion Ronaldo.

Williams said he was "happy and excited" about the "unique performance" in front of 80,000 fans and many millions all over the world and that it was a boyhood dream.

He added: "We'd like to invite football and music fans to party with us in Russian Federation, in the stadium, or to tune in their TVs a little earlier for an unforgettable show".

Robbie Williams to perform at World Cup opening ceremony

The World Cup opening ceremony will have a slightly different format compared to previous editions of the tournament.

According to the United Bid, Trump wrote in a May 2 letter that "all eligible athletes, officials and fans from all countries around the world would be able to enter the United States without discrimination" should North America host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Take That star will perform at the opening ceremony at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium along with Russian soprano Aida Garifullina. "Of course it is also an emotional one for the hosts".

Ronaldo, who scored 62 goals in 98 appearances for Brazil, also scored over 100 goals for Real Madrid during a four-and-a-half year stint last decade.
