Russian MP warns against sex with foreigners during World Cup

Russian women should avoid sex with non-white foreign men during the soccer World Cup because they could become single mothers to mixed race children, a senior lawmaker in Moscow said on Wednesday.

"These children suffer and have suffered, even since Soviet times", Pletnyova, chairwoman of the Family, Women, and Children Affairs Committee, was quoted by radio station Govorit Moskva, as saying.

The World Cup hosted by Russian Federation could boost the number of young women falling pregnant, the top politician warned, adding: 'I hope they get something clear in their heads regarding foreigners.

The term was used during the Soviet era to describe non-white children conceived at global events after relationships between Russian women and men from Africa, Latin America, or Asia.

Pletnyova was referencing the Moscow Olympics of 1980 when she said, "Their children will suffer for it".

"We should give birth to our own children".

"It's good if it's one race, but if it's another race, then they really did". I'm not a nationalist, but nonetheless.

Urging women to marry "Russian citizens" instead, she said that children risked being "abandoned and just left with their mother" or being taken overseas by their fathers. "Then they come to me at the committee and cry that the child was taken away, removed, and so forth", Pletnyova said.

She said: 'Even if [the men] marry [the mother], they take her away (from Russia) and she doesn't know how to get back.

"I would like to see people in our country to get married for love".

"I would like to see marriages in our country for love, regardless of the nationality, between those who are citizens of Russian Federation, who will build a good family, live with togetherness, have children and raise them", she said.

However, her comments drew both criticism and ridicule. "I would like to say that these girl journalists should look more decent, put clothes on themselves when entering a state building, instead of having their belly buttons naked", Pletnyova said during an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio.

'We're not in America or Europe.

Russian Federation expects to host about one million foreigners at the World Cup matches.
