The 2009 iPhone 3GS Is Back and Its Only $40!

You are still living in 2018, but very surprisingly, the iPhone 3GS has risen from the ashes and is still being sold courtesy of a carrier, for a mere $40. The phone, which Apple introduced in 2009, will retail for a mere $40. Now, the model will soon be available for purchase again nine years after its original release. The reason that the carrier is resuming sales of these long out of production devices is a practical one.

Now it is possible to buy a brand new iPhone 3GS, nine years after it hit the market, from a Korean Carrier company named SK Telink.

Why Is SK Telink Selling The iPhone 3GS?

Granted, it's not quite capable of carrying out numerous demanding tasks iPhone users have enjoyed in recent years - considering the sheer rarity and value of some vintage and obsolete Apple products we've seen before, it's a safe bet assume these units will be worth a fortune one day!

As the iPhone 3GS contains a rechargeable battery that's been sitting unused for almost a decade, SK Telink will open each phone's package, test it to be sure it's working, then repackage it for shipment to a customer. They will sell for 44,000 won, which is about $41 with no contract. Apple stopped provided software updates to the 3GS with iOS 6 so it's unlikely that customers will be able to run many modern apps.

Even though the carrier is selling brand-new iPhone 3GS units, one should not expect the phones to work the same as the current generation of iPhones. With Apple having switched to the Lightning connector from the 30-pin connector back in 2012, customers find it hard to get accessories for this handset as well.

Furthermore, with the retro craze taking over the world these days and the fact that old Apple devices sell for an insane amount of money, the iPhone 3GS could also be sold for a fortune in the years to come.
