Trump Must Stop Separating Migrant Children From Parents

Children are likely being separated from the parents at the border at an accelerated rate because of a new "zero tolerance policy" being implemented by Trump's own administration.

The United Nations has urged Washington to immediately halt its controversial practice of separating asylum-seeking Central American children from their parents at the southern border. "Started the Wall." As soon as Trump posted on Twitter, a backlash followed.

"The fact that you have people coming from countries experiencing violence and might be subject to persecution by gangs and other criminal violence, would certainly. give them the right to receive global protection", Mr Spindler said.

The Trump administration will soon begin fingerprinting parents claiming custody of children who entered the United States illegally without an adult relative, officials said a week ago, prompting criticism that children may be abandoned by those who fear being identified and deported.

As of this past Sunday, nearly 300 of the 550 migrant kids now in custody at USA border stations had been there long enough to exceed the 72-hour time limit for immigrants of any age to be held in the temporary facilities at the border.

"Border security laws should be changed but the Dem (ocrat) s cant get their act together. They should never do that", he told the Hugh Hewitt Show. "Detention is never in the best interests of the child", Shamdasani declared, noting that the practice seems to have been in effect since October and has been applied "to both asylum-seekers and other migrants in vulnerable situations". She said border control appears to take precedence over child protection and care in the U.S.

In April, Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave direction for all instances of illegal border crossings to be prosecuted.

"We call on USA authorities to adopt non-custodial alternatives that allow children to remain with their families and fulfill the best interests of the child, their right to liberty and their right to family life".

The US says the policy aims to stem a surge of poor families mostly from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

Thousands cross the US-Mexico border each week and immediately turn themselves in to authorities asking for asylum, citing the daily violence in their home countries.

Hundreds of immigrant rights advocates and others participate in rally and and demonstration at the Federal Building in lower Manhattan against the Trump administration's policy that enables federal agents to take migrant children away from their parents at the border on June 1, 2018 in New York, United States.
