Trump vents anger on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, European Union and Canada's Trudeau

US President Donald Trump

In particular, Canada, Japan and the European G7 powers are outraged by Trump's unilateral - or illegal, in their eyes - imposition of tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in the name of preserving United States industry on national security grounds. As per a CNN report, on the conclusion of the G7 summit, Kudlow said that the United States had planned to sign the joint G7 communique until Trudeau made certain statements countering the economic interests of the United States.

Trudeau had told reporters that Trump's decision to invoke national security to justify USA tariffs on steel and aluminum imports was "kind of insulting" to Canadian veterans who had stood by their USA allies in conflicts dating back to World War I.

The United States has alienated Canada and other allies by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, arguing that they pose a threat to USA national security. Not long after Trump issued two tweets calling Trudeau "very dishonest & weak".

So Trump's national security justification is so laughable that Republicans who have been willing to stick by Trump through every other blunder are ready to work with Democrats to block these tariffs by holding military spending hostage.

At a news conference after his meeting with Kim, the president said the Canadian leader must not have realized that Trump had televisions on Air Force One, allowing him to monitor Trudeau's news conference at the end of the G-7 summit.

USA allies will "be looking forward to the day when there's a different government in the United States", he said.

While Trump expressed surprise at Trudeau's remarks, his comments were largely in line with what Canadian officials had said since Trump's announcement of tariffs. And what did Trudeau do as soon as the plane took off from Canadian airspace?

Mrs May later said in her statement: "The UK fully intends to honour the commitments we have made". "He learned. You can't do that".

Economists generally view tariffs as inflationary, forcing consumer prices higher and eventually hurting the economy of the country that impose the tariffs.

Mr Trump has infuriated the European Union, Canada and Mexico by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

European officials said Trump had tried to water down the language in the draft communique on the WTO and rules-based trade.

The board noted that some of Trump's criticisms of Canada's trade policies are not significant enough to warrant a trade dispute with our neighbors to the north, and that many are exaggerated.

G7 allies criticised Trump's decision to reject a joint communique, the BBC reported on Monday.

"Canadians are polite, we're reasonable but we also will not be pushed around", he said. "And if it's not fixed, we're not going to deal with these countries".

"We are all Canadians first and we will stand with Canadian workers and the families impacted by this escalating trade war".
