Urges all parties in Yemen to work with United Nations as fighting flares

The strike coincides with the advance of coalition-backed Yemeni forces on the rebel-held Red Sea port of Hodeida, the main conduit for humanitarian supplies into a country teetering on the brink of starvation.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

He said the UN's Yemen envoy, Martin Griffiths, was shuttling between the capital of Yemen Sanaa and also the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Britain has urged the UAE not to press ahead with an assault on Yemen's main port following United Nations warnings that the attack could leave hundreds of thousands dead in a country already on the brink of starvation.

"It's also our plan and intention to stay and deliver", Lowcock said. "We are working with very largely numbers of Yemeni organizations and individuals".

Meanwhile, the U.S. was following developments in Yemen very closely, said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"I have spoken with Emirati leaders and made clear our desire to address their security concerns while preserving the free flow of humanitarian aid and life-saving commercial imports", he said.

The United Nations, which has for years unsuccessfully sought to temper the conflict is pushing for a ceasefire in an effort to prevent an attack on Hodeidah. He estimates that over a million people live in the greater Hodeidah area which is expected to be targeted in the offensive.

During his meeting with Yemen's new Foreign Minister Khaled Alyemany, Guterres stressed that "everyone should redouble efforts to find a political solution and avoid a fierce, bloody battle for Hodeida", UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

The council met behind closed doors to hear United Nations envoy Martin Griffiths report on his diplomatic efforts to keep the rebel-held port of Hodeidah open to shipments of aid and commercial goods.

Saudi-led coalition is to pay five billion dollar for Israel for taking part in an imminent attack led by the coalition on Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, officials familiar with the issue said on Monday. Since the Coalition launched its support for the Yemeni government in March 2015, Houthis have fired 149 ballistic issiles and 66,315 projectiles toward Saudi Arabia. The coalition aims to restore the government of self-exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

More than 10,000 Yemenis have been killed since the war began, tens of thousands have been wounded, and another two million people have been displaced.
