USA, Canada and Mexico to host football World Cup 2026

When Qatar won the 2022 bid in controversial fashion in 2010, it seemed like having the World Cup return to the United States would be impossible but the 2026 bid was first rate and combining Canada and Mexico was convincing.

In a vote of more than 200 member nations of soccer's governing body in Moscow, the so-called United Bid beat out Morocco, 134-65. Mexico played host to the 1970 and 1986 World Cup.

There is now a professional league that includes impressive infrastructure such as stadiums and training grounds, European games are omnipresent on television, top players now come from across the country, and the World Cup is big business.

In 2026, however, there won't be any official World Cup festivities in Chicago, after Mayor Rahm Emanuel pulled out of the North American bid in March.

The 2026 World Cup is to be the first to feature 48 teams, compared to the 32 that are to compete in Russian Federation and Qatar. Another three are cities that will have expansion teams coming into MLS.

"Thank you so, so very much for this incredible honor". The United States will host the remaining 60, including the final.

Want to know who will win the first match of the World Cup? The lovely game transcends borders and cultures. "Football today is the only victor".

The North American bid got 17 low-risk and three medium assessments when it comes to organizing costs, government support as well as human rights and labour standards. The preliminary bid book submitted by the organizers anticipates 10 American cities at hosts. "We'll have discussions with U.S. Soccer about what happens next".

Most of Africa pledged their support to their confederation colleagues Morocco, but the United Bid took their thorough campaign to the continent, eventually earning the votes of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and seven other African nations.

In April, Trump caused controversy with a tweet that some interpreted as a threat. They put in a huge amount of legwork, meeting with a slew of countries across the vast continent in hopes of securing a majority of the confederation's votes.

"We believe strongly that this decision will be made on its merits", Cordeiro, the bid leader, told reporters. "We've had no backlash".

Baltimore and M&T Bank Stadium fared well in FIFA's assessment of potential game venues, and the city is considered the favorite to host the World Cup Team Workshop, which brings together delegations from all 48 competing nations for a pretournament introduction to the World Cup's organization.
