An Unsettled Britain Plays Host to Trump

Donald Trump speaks to reporters on the South Lawn before boarding Marine One and departing the White House

The pound has fallen more than 0.5% against the dollar on Friday morning.

At 11 a.m., protesters began gathering outside the BBC in central London's Portland Place for a separate demonstration branded "Bring the Noise", led by the Women's March London, which organized mass demonstrations in 2017 against Trump's remarks and behavior toward women. "I'm not sure that's what they voted for".

"If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the United Kingdom, so it will probably kill the deal", Trump said. "We're in solidarity with those negatively affected by Trump's policies around the world". Police worked overtime, their days off cancelled.

Asked about Johnson's comments at a private dinner two weeks ago that Trump "would go in bloody hard" if he was handling Brexit, the President said: "He is right".

Around the time Melania is visiting children, the giant Trump baby is due to be flying in the air outside the House of Commons, with liftoff scheduled for 9.30am and the inflatable due to fly in the air until 11am.

After the story was published, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the president "likes and respects Prime Minister May very much", adding that he said in the interview she "is a very good person", and that he "never said anything bad about her".

Trump said he would try to avoid the crowd in the capital during his four-day visit to the country.

Mr Trump is then due to arrive at Chequers, the official country residence of the Prime Minister, for a working lunch with Mrs May at 11am on Friday.

"I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London", Trump said.

Trump fans have slammed the blimp, calling it offensive and blasting authorities for allowing it to fly.

Trump said Khan had done "a bad job" on terrorism and crime in the capital.

"The idea that we would curtail freedom to protest, freedom of speech, because someone's feelings are hurt is laughable", Khan said Friday in an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "I think she represents her country so well", Trump told The Sun newspaper of the UK. I haven't been there in a long time.

"But the other people who will be saying this is really good news for us are the "remainers" in the European Union, because when the United Kingdom delegation goes to Brussels next week to sell the idea that it's going to be really hard for the EU to resist the temptation to say to them 'look, you think dealing with us is hard, how do you feel about dealing with him?'"

Prime Minister Theresa May said her plan to keep close economic ties with the European Union once Britain leaves the bloc next March was "principled and pragmatic".

His departure from the US ambassador's residence aboard the presidential helicopter was met by jeers from demonstrators banging pots and pans, and another group of protesters lined roads near the palace.

In a statement ahead of Trump's arrival, she said the visit would focus on trade and strengthening defense and security ties, saying there was no stronger alliance than Britain's "special relationship with the U.S". "Moral outrage is water off a duck's back to Trump, but he really seems to hate it when people make fun of him".
