Barcelona sign defender Lenglet from Sevilla

BREAKING NEWS Barcelona complete €36m Lenglet capture from Sevilla

Barcelona signing Clement Lenglet is eager to win silverware.

The Catalan giants announced the signing on their website and revealed he will sign a five-year deal with a €300 million (£265 million) buyout clause.

The French global is set to sign a five-year contract with the Catalans.

But Sevilla held firm, with director of football Caparros and president Jose Castro insisting on numerous occasions they were unwilling to negotiate with Barca, telling them to pay the release clause or forget about Lenglet.

That meant Lenglet had to exercise his release clause, paying €35.9m to buy himself out of his contract and free himself up to move to Camp Nou.

Lenglet becomes Barcelona's second acquisition after Brazilian star, Arthur, arrived from Gremio for €40m on Monday.

Lenglet joined Sevilla from Nancy in January 2017 and went on to make 73 appearances for the club.

Manchester United were also credited with an interest in securing his signature, but Lenglet has opted to stay in La Liga with Barca.

The French defender posted impressive performances in La Liga last season and can be added as back up for Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti.
