According to The Guardian, the insider source told PA that investigators "are sure" the perpetrators are Russian.

The British Foreign Office declined to comment and directed Euronews to the police. Security Minister Ben Wallace was dismissive, saying it belonged to the "ill-informed and wild speculation folder".

Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia collapsed in the southwestern English city of Salisbury on March 4 after being exposed to the nerve agent Novichok.

Both have recovered and are being held in a secret location for their safety, with the United Kingdom government pointing the finger at the Kremlin for the attempted assassination. Before being relocated to England as part of a high-profile spy swap, Skripal had been a Russian Army colonel who fed information to British intelligence.

Much like 2016 U.S. Election hacking, Moscow has continued to deny any involvement in the attacks and claims British intelligence is attempting to spread anti-Russia hysteria.

Sturgess was exposed to at least 10 times the level of Novichok that the Skripals came into contact with, the Press Association reported.

On Wednesday, worldwide chemical weapons experts completed their investigations in Amesbury, where they sought to identify whether the substance that poisoned the couple was from the same batch used against the Skripals.

She and her partner Charlie Rowley, both from Amesbury which is situated about eight miles north of Salisbury, were poisoned by novichok believed to be from the same batch as that used to target the Skripals.

In the meantime, additional details have also been reported about the death of Dawn Sturgess from novichok poisoning.

Within their complex investigation, detectives are looking at the possibility that Ms Sturgess tested the spray on her face and hands, believing it to be perfume. They set out to determine the place and time of death as well as how the deceased came by their death, but do not apportion blame.

The inquest was adjourned until January.

Philip Ingram, a former British Army intelligence officer and chemical weapons expert, said the latest development supported his perception that this was a "professional attack" created to send a "political message" - adding that the poisoning happened two weeks before the Russian election.

British authorities believe Sturgess and Rowley were not directly targeted.

"The OPCW team collected samples".
