‘Downton Abbey’ Movie Gets Go-Ahead, With Series Cast Returning

Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates, tweeted a picture of herself with fellow stars Michelle Dockery and Dame Maggie Smith with the words: "Delighted to announce we're getting the band back together!"

The outlet notes that "not every recurring character" will appear in the Downton Abbey film - which is understandable considering that the series' main, recurring character, and guest cast lists rival the size of Game of Thrones'.

Created by writer-producer Julian Fellowes, the Emmy-winning costume drama ran for six seasons from 2010-15 on ITV in the United Kingdom and on PBS in the United States.

Fans of Downton Abbey can breathe a sign of relief - a film of the hugely successful TV series has finally been confirmed after much speculation.

Added Focus Features, "Since the series ended, fans of Downton have always been waiting for the Crawley family's next chapter".

Carnival Films and Focus Features have announced that shooting is set to take place this summer at Highclerc Castle, the 17th-century estate which served as the setting for the aristocratic Crawley family's titular home.

Brian Percival, who directed the series' pilot, will direct the film.

A film exploring the next chapter of the Crawley family has always been rumored ever since the series made its final bow in 2015 after six decorated seasons.

Carnival has received a host of national and global awards over its 40-year history including Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes and BAFTAs, and has been recognized as the UK's best production company at both the Bulldog Awards and Broadcast Awards. "We're thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen". With 69 nominations, it was the most nominated non-U.S. television show in the history of the Emmys.

The official Twitter account for the series broke the news over social media to "cordially invite" fans to see the film, which will be screened in cinemas.
