Electromagnetic Energy Moves Between Saturn and Enceladus

New research from the Grand Finale phase shows a powerful and dynamic interaction of plasma waves moving from the gas giant to its rings and its sixth-largest moon, Enceladus.

Ali Sulaiman, planetary scientist at the University of Iowa and a member of the RPWS team, added that Enceladus was a "little generator going around Saturn", which was a continuous source of energy, Popular Mechanics reported. (And ours.) We now know that Cassini also recorded a soundtrack of sorts-data that has now yielded a series of thrillingly eerie whooshes and warbles that represent the relationship between the ringed planet and Enceladus, one of its moons.

According to Science Alert, by utilizing the Radio Plasma Wave Science tool (RPWS), researchers have been able to hear plasma waves traveling in between the two bodies, proving that these waves are able to easily navigate the magnetic field lines between Enceladus and Saturn.

Plasma waves in the audible frequency range are electromagnetic, and that's exactly what they got Cassini.

With the help of the Cassini spacecraft, scientists were able to detect the interaction between Saturn and its satellite Enceladus.

'Now we find that Saturn responds by launching signals in the form of plasma waves, through the circuit of magnetic field lines connecting it to Enceladus hundreds of thousands of miles away'. Our own Moon does not collaborate similarly with Earth. Scientists found was that not only was the plasma interaction remarkably powerful, but that the signals could be sped up from a duration of 16 minutes to 28.5 seconds and converted into an audio file.

Saturn isn't just a lovely planet with its distinct set of rings, it's also a giant electric generator.

Much like air or water, plasma generates waves to carry energy.

The "circuitry" between the planet and its moon is the subject of two recent papers in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. Enceladus auroral hiss emissions during Cassini's Grand Finale.

The audio recording of the plasma waves was taken on September 7, 2017, and the Cassini probe held 12 different instruments on it with which to study Saturn.
