EPA Chief Scott Pruitt Resigns

The resignation of Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt was accepted by President Trump on Thursday. Pruitt is the subject of multiple ethics investigations

The new leader of the Environmental Protection Agency is a former coal industry lobbyist who helped lead an industry fight against regulations that protect Americans' health and address climate change. He will be replaced by acting administrator Andrew Wheeler.

Inhofe expressed his support for his former staffer on Thursday, calling Wheeler "the flawless choice" to serve as acting EPA administrator. Now he will be at a very high-ranking position at the EPA, where he will be in a position to make lots of decisions that could benefit his former clients.

If Trump nominates Wheeler to lead the agency in a permanent capacity, a Senate vote would be required.

EPA's press office sent out biographical information on Wheeler late Friday, but did not respond to interview requests for him.

Senior White House advisor Stephen Miller has also been confronted by protesters, including being called a "fascist" while dining at a Mexican restaurant and, most recently, facing a crowd of demonstrators outside his home in D.C. who gathered to denounce the zero immigration policy, USA Today reported. Edward Markey (D) of MA.

"Like Pruitt, this veteran coal lobbyist has shown only disdain for the EPA's vital mission to protect Americans' health and our environment", Cohen says in a statement. Pruitt proposed past year to repeal a key climate-change regulation of President Barack Obama's administration, which aimed to reduce emissions of carbon-trapping gases from coal-fired power plants.

But unlike Pruitt, Wheeler is considered low-key and is a Washington insider who has spent much of his career in the nation's capital.

Although Pruitt has always been known for his high-profile appearances dating back to his successful run for Oklahoma attorney general, reports paint Wheeler as a quieter political actor.

It's not just Wheeler's time in government that concerns environmental advocates. He went on to work as chief of staff to Sen.

Senator Inhofe, who dismisses global warming as a hoax and famously tossed a snowball on the Senate floor to prove his point, hailed Wheeler's ascension to EPA chief.

The EPA confirmed to The Times that through the end of next year, the agency will not enforce a previous cap on manufacturers making "glider trucks", and hopes to permanently repeal the cap. He is a former energy industry lobbyist.

Wheeler was photographed in a meeting with Murray's owner, along with Department of Energy Secretary Rick Perry, in the last few days of March 2017.

Senators asked Wheeler about the Murray meeting during his confirmation hearing.

"We see Mr. Wheeler as fitting a very typical pattern of behavior", said Chris Saeger, of the Western Values Project.

Beyer and Lieu, in their letter to the inspector general, said the allegations were supported by an analysis of Pruitt's public calendars.

On top of that, he entered into, for example, a controversial rental arrangement for the first six months of his tenure, with the wife of a lobbyist, herself a lobbyist on Capitol Hill, where he only paid $50 a night on the nights that he stayed there.
