President Donald Trump lashed out yesterday after Brussels hit USA tech giant Google with a record fine, and warned he would no longer allow Europe to take "advantage" of the United States.

I'm sure many of you can relate whenever you hear the phrase "Google is my best friend", and it is no doubt that it really is. Vestager's latest Google ruling should be just a first step, not an isolated attack on one US company for something others do, too.

Earlier on Wednesday, EU regulators hit Google with the record fine for using its Android mobile operating system to squeeze out rivals.

The European Commission said Google had used the mobile operating system to illegally cement its dominant position in search.

Internet users were shocked to see pictures of Trump when they looked for an image for the word, "idiot" on the search engine. In its view, an European Union ruling will harm app developers and customers by undercutting Google's business model of giving away Android software and generating revenue from mobile advertising.

According to Pichai, the free distribution of the Android platform, and of Google's suite of applications, is "not only efficient" for phone makers and operators but is also of "huge benefit" for developers and consumers. However, Apple's iOS offers more advanced performance, privacy, and security, along with integration across Apple devices, Bloomberg noted.


Still, some USA politicians welcomed the fine.

Google has rejected the EU's accusations, arguing that its approach encourages competition.

Android is "open source", meaning that device makers can use it free of charge and customize it as they wish.

It ruled, too, that Google broke the law by forcing manufacturers that took its apps to commit to not selling devices that use altered versions of Android.

Donald Trump has taken to Twitter once again, attacking the European Union decision to fine Google for using "anti-competitive" practices. "We intend to appeal", he said.

In 2015 former President Barack Obama said in an interview with Recode that the European Union was sometimes "more commercially driven than anything else" in its probes of United States tech companies, including Google.
