First video showing rescued Thai boys recovering in hospital

Brett Kavanaugh is a better Supreme Court pick than Trump realizes

The rescue mission, in which a Thai navy diver died, involved 90 divers who captured the world's imagination as they tirelessly worked to save the boys.

"The first eight can talk", a doctor told media at a press conference on Wednesday.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the children were sedated and placed on stretchers to prevent them from panicking during the rescue mission from the Tham Luang cave complex.

The boys lost on average 2kg during their ordeal but are said to be in good physical condition.

Sadly, the boys and their coach had to decline under orders from their doctors to remain in the hospital for seven days for monitoring. Some of them, wearing surgical masks, lay on their beds.

None of the boys was heard speaking in the clips shown at the news conference.

They were taken by helicopter to a hospital about 70 km (45 miles) away to join their team mates in quarantine for the time being.

Even so, all need to be monitored in the hospital for a week and then rest at home for another 30 days, he said. Doctors were anxious about potential infections the children could have contracted in the cave.

Thailand's junta chief told reporters on Tuesday that the group had been given a "minor tranquiliser" to help calm their nerves.

Thailand's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Wednesday thanked people involved in the rescue.

"The important thing is. personal space", Prayuth told reporters. "The best way is not to bother them and let them study".

The other boys reportedly banded together to buy snacks for his birthday, and it is thought these snacks helped sustain them after getting trapped in the caves. They were found by a pair of British divers almost 10 days later, huddled on a small, dry shelf just above the water, smiling with relief but visibly skinny.

Four Thai Navy Seals are seen after leaving the cave safe during the rescue mission.

The commander of the navy SEAL unit that oversaw the rescue, Rear Admiral Apakorn Yuukongkaew, hailed the global effort.

He said: "We are not heroes". "For SEALs, this is what we were trained for".

Rescued boys skinnier after extraordinary cave rescue, health officials say, a day after divers brought out a young football team from a northern Tham Luang cave ending a 17-day ordeal that gripped Thailand and the world.

.

"My wife actually grew up with the Thai Navy SEAL that died in the cave".

The rescue has dominated front-page headlines in Thailand and beyond for days. "Mission accomplished" and the Bangkok Post emblazoned with "All Wild Boars saved".

While it's a shame the boys can't make the World Cup final, the soccer world is looking out for the Wild Boars.

French midfielder Paul Pogba dedicated his side's semifinal win over Belgium Tuesday to the rescued team.

England defender Kyle Walker sought out the boys' contact information to send them jerseys.

A Google search on Tuesday for the words "Thai cave rescue" revealed 359 million results.

"Amazing news that all of the Thai kids are out of the cave safely!"
