Hearthstone's Next Expansion, The Boomsday Project, Sounds Mechxcellent

Any Hearthstone players out there?

The Biology Project allows each player to gain two mana crystals. "Play Mode" features traditional head-to-head battles, with players facing off for a chance to increase their medal ranking and earn card packs along the way. Aside from winning new cards, players will be able to round out their collections by purchasing new card packs or disenchanting some of their existing cards to craft the ones they're missing. Mechs look set to be a key feature in The Boomsday Project, and familiar faces from the GvG set could be returning too.

Boomsday introduces two new card keywords.

Each of the nine new Legendary Spells will represent one of the nine Classes.

Players will discover spells with effects they assume will benefit both players, but this is Hearthstobne after all, so things aren't always what they seem.

The Boomsday Project expansion also brings the "Magnetic" buff, however, this is strictly relevant to the mech minions in the game. If you have a minion of the "mech" type, playing a card with the Magnetic tag will combine them into a bigger, stronger creature (kind of like an ad-hoc mechanical version of Deathstalker Rexxar's build-a-beast power).

Above: Spider Bomb goes boom.

While not keywords themselves, The Boomsday Project also introduces two new groups of cards: Projects and Omega cards. Since it has the Magnetic ability, though, you can instead attach the card to another mech to give that card an attack and life boost, as well as the added bonus of "Deathrattle", an ability that will let that mech destroy a random enemy minion when it is destroyed. One shot from the expansion's trailer hints at a new Warrior hero based on the infamous Dr. Boom, a legendary minion from the GvG expansion which dominated the game for some time.

The Boomsday Project stars the goblin Dr. Boom and is focused on science rather than the fantasy and supernatural elements we've typically seen from expansions thus far.

Hearthstone just revealed the card game's newest expansion: The Boomsday Project. All the new mechanics will play a central role in the new single-player experience The Puzzle Lab - which is set to be revealed in full closer to release date. Players will have to wrestle with a variety of brain-teasers that will put their wits to the test, like Lethal puzzles, which challenge them to make a match-winning play with a specific board state, or Survival puzzles, which task them to stay alive against stacked odds with scant tools at their disposal.
