Heat warnings have been issued for much of the southeastern portion of the province.

Environment Canada cleared a series of severe thunderstorm warnings and watches on Monday night for the City of Toronto, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, Georgina, Hamilton, and the regions of Halton and Peel after rain, thunder and lightning hit the region.

Environment Canada said Saturday afternoon that temperatures for Sunday and Monday are expected to soar due to a a hot, humid airmass coming into the area. "Inland areas can will experience day-time highs of at least 28 degrees and overnight lows near 16 degrees", it says.

"Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be the low 30s with humidex values near 40", the agency warns.


Island Health has also issued its own public service announcement on the hot temperatures, reinforcing Environment Canada's message to check on those who may be vulnerable.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

The Lake Cowichan Fire Department posted about the upgraded danger rating to Facebook and reminded campers to make sure campfires are fully extinguished.

Never leave people or pets inside parked vehicles, and take plenty of regular breaks if you're working outdoors.
