Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Shaqiri and their interest has been public knowledge for some time know, but the club have finally officially opened talks with the Potters over a potential £13 million transfer.
Having already welcomed Fabinho and Naby Keita for £44m and £52m respectively, the Reds are also being linked with moves for Nabil Fekir and Xherdan Shaqiri. Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup.
Shaqiri was signed from Inter Milan by former Stoke manager Mark Hughes for £12m in August 2015 and managed eight goals and seven assists last term, despite his side's struggles.
The Echo reports that Shaqiri would prefer a move to Liverpool and Stoke are hopeful that selling the Swiss worldwide to the Reds would mean they would be more willing to loan out one of Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.
Shaqiri's involvement at the World Cup ended last week when Switzerland were knocked out of the tournament by Sweden.
The arrival of "Der Kraftwürfel" (the Powercube) would provide welcome depth for the Liverpool attack for the upcoming season, with the Reds heavily reliant upon the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in their 2017/18 campaign.
Well there's now been an update on that particular saga and it's nothing but good news for those Liverpool fans that want Wilson to stay.
Shaqiri has spoken publicly of his desire to remain in England , and talks between Liverpool, Stoke and the player's representatives are underway. It's completely up to the player and Klopp.
