Jesus Aguilar, Jean Segura win online vote for final all-star spots

Mariners’ Jean Segura sent to All-Star Game with Final Vote win

Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi was second. No totals were given for Benintendi.

Giancarlo Stanton finished third in the Final Vote among AL players it was announced on Wednesday.

Benintendi remains eligible for the team, as an injury replacement.

Major League Baseball released the results of online balloting for the last slot in each league Wednesday night, with Aguilar drawing 20.2 million votes to secure his first All-Star selection.

This will be Segura's second All-Star appearance.


The 28-year-old Venezuelan was tied for the National League lead with 23 home runs and becomes the fourth Milwaukee player headed to the game. Now in its 17 season, the All-Star Final Vote has recorded over 845 million votes. Aguilar beat out Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants, Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals and Trea Turner of the Washington Nationals.

As for Segura, the Mariners infielder is in the midst of a career year at the plate. Segura entered play Wednesday in the majors with a.329 batting average and second in hits (116), trailing only reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve (124).

There may be some more substitutions on the All-Star rosters between now and the game next Tuesday, but there will be no more straight additions now that the final vote is in.

Aguilar is now an All-Star for the first time. FOX Deportes will provide Spanish language coverage in the United States, while ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game.
