Kim sets 54-hole record, Talley 3rd at LPGA Classic

Lydia Ko struggled for accuracy in the final round of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic

The South Korean's cumulative score of 31-under-par at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Wisconsin smashed the Tour's four-day record by four shots - an accolade she had previously shared with Swedish great Annika Sorenstam.

But Aditi's total of 12-under was 19 shots behind Sei Young Kim, whose final round seven-under 65 saw her post a record total of 31-under 257.

The previous LPGA 72-hole record was 27 under par, set by Annika Sorenstam at the 2001 Standard Register Ping and tied by Kim at the 2016 JTBC Founders Cup. Through 54 holes, Kim has made 24 birdies, an eagle and her lone mistake of the entire tournament was a double bogey in round two, and she has no bogeys so far.

Kim's only blemish all week was a double bogey at the par-three 17th on Friday.

"I just want to keep challenging myself and what I can do", she said.

"I'm really happy with a dream come true", she said.

Kim began the final round with an 8 shot lead and wound up winning by nine in collecting the unique Sky Woman trophy.

Joining Kirk at 11 under are In Gee Chun (66), Amy Yang (66), Mariah Stackhouse (67) and Emma Talley (68). Hee Young Park won a playoff after she and Angela Stanford each finished at 258 in the Manulife Classic in Canada in 2013 on a course that was a par 71, while Karen Stupples shot 258 at the Welch's/Fry's Championship in Arizona in 2004 but that course was a par 70.

"It's unbelievable the way she's playing", Ciganda said of Kim.

"First hole, my second shot was nearly a tap-in birdie, so (I) started really solid", said Kim, who is seeking a seventh LPGA title.

The New Zealander took 33 putts for the round and hit only five of 14 fairways and 14 greens in regulation.

Kim closed with a seven-under 65, leaving her at 31-under 257 for the tournament, for a dominant victory over Spain's Carlota Ciganda.

I caught up with Talley after her career best finish on tour.

"I really feel, like, unreal", Kim said.

The Thornberry winner's cheque of US$300,000 pushed Kim's career earnings past US$5 million, making her the 61st player to reach that plateau in LPGA history.

During her first season on the LPGA Tour, Kim won three tournaments to earn the Tour's Rookie of the Year award. That victory had propelled her to eighth in the world, although she had slipped to 26th coming into this week.

Following a successful first year, Kim notched two additional titles in the 2016 season, and in 2017, she added another win - the Citibanamex Lorena Ochoa Match Play in Mexico City. Yang was alone in second place after the third round.
