Liverpool sign Xherdan Shaqiri for £13m on five-year deal from Stoke

Discussions over a £13.75 million deal are progressing well according to the report, and Stoke City's winger could land at the Anfield sooner rather than later.

There has been interest in Shaqiri from a number of clubs, but Liverpool are set to win the race and will activate his release clause of around £13.75m rather than thrashing out a different fee.

The Swiss global winger is the Reds' third major purchase of the summer, and has penned a five-year deal at Anfield.

Following Stoke's relegation to the Championship, the 26-year-old expressed a desire to remain in Premier League and recently stated it is "no secret" he will leave the bet365 Stadium.

He helped Switzerland to the last 16 of the World Cup in Russian Federation, where they were beaten by Sweden.

Liverpool will have a lot of fixtures to play next season, and the signing of Shaqiri will provide Jurgen Klopp with some much needed squad depth.

"It's a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach. So I'm really glad and happy to be here", Shaqiri told the club's official website.

"As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football".

But it looks like Liverpool have finally got their hands on another attacker and as long as there are no late complications, Shaqiri will become Klopp's third summer signing following the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho. A few years ago I wanted to come too but it didn't happen.

Speaking after the announcement of the signing, Klopp described the move for the winger as a "no-brainer" for Liverpool.
