London pub renames itself The Trump Arms ahead of presidential visit

Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit and thousands of protesters are expected to join demonstrations during his visit, including plans to fly a blimp over parliament portraying Trump as an orange, snarling baby.

In a list of "actions to take", the warning recommended that Americans, "Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent", "keep a low profile" and "be aware of your surroundings".

While Trump is expected to have a busy schedule throughout his visit, there is at least one place that he will avoid: central London.

Mr Trump is due to land this afternoon before attending a black-tie dinner at Blenheim Palace in his honour, where protesters will gather at the gates.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the United States ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday.

The protest will continue on July 14 when a "carnival of resistance" is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh, coinciding with Donald Trump's visit to the UK.

As anti-Trump activists demonstrate during the U.S. president's visit, supporters will gather in the British capital to welcome him to Britain.

Trump angered May and many Britons by tweeting inflammatory and unverified videos made by Britain First, an anti-Muslim group whose leaders have been convicted of hate crimes, and by characterizing parts of London and other cities as no-go areas because of a purported Muslim-related crime wave.

Thousands of people are expected to protest against the president's visit across the UK.

But, while the balloon has led to significant media coverage in both the United Kingdom and the U.S., Ambassador Woody Johnson said in an interview with BBC Radio 4 that he sees the balloon as being out of touch with the broader views of the British public.

The protocol is that if embassy staff are warned internally about possible threats, then the American public must be as well, she said.

Trump will travel by helicopter once there, making it unlikely he'll see protests firsthand.

Trump "has proudly sparked passionate often divisive emotions about things, I think Americans living here to eager to turn out and express their views", he said.

"We are at a very key point in history right now, and we need to take a stand".

Mr Trump is the 12th sitting U.S. president to make such a trip and will spend time with the Queen and prime minister before flying to Scotland to spend the weekend at his golf resort.

He also refused to endorse Ms May as prime minister and heaped praise on his "friend" Boris Johnson a day after he quit as foreign secretary.
