Longest Total Lunar Eclipse will be on July 27

Residents in other parts of Africa and Asia as well those in Europe, Australia and South America will be able to see a partial lunar eclipse. It is said the full eclipse will last over an hour and 30 minutes, whereas the partial eclipse would last over an hour. The moon loses the brightness normally caused by the reflection of the sun's light and takes on an eerie, reddish glow, giving the lunar eclipse moon the nickname of blood moon. Delivering the consumables and the needed resources from Earth to the Moon would be very costly and would turn the Solar System exploration, and lunar exploration, subsequently, unsustainable.

On July 27 late at night, the full moon will be close to its apogee, which is the farthest point of the moon from Earth in its orbit around the Earth, and it will be the smallest full moon of the year 2018.

According to PAGASA, lunar eclipse is safe to watch and observers need not use any kind of protective filters for the eyes.

The total lunar eclipse could be seen in naked eyes, unlike the solar eclipse.

Only those in the Eastern Hemisphere will be able to view the upcoming event, with people in Europe, Africa and Asia getting the best seats for the lunar show.

Meanwhile, there is a twist: the expected astronomical event has reignited the blood moon prophecy.

On April 15, 2014, there was a total lunar eclipse which was the first of four consecutive total eclipses in a series, known as a tetrad; a second one took place on October 8, 2014, the third one on April 4, 2015, and the remaining one took place on September 27, 2015. The moon will take shades from right orange to blood red. The colours will depend on its path of passing through the shadow of the Earth. Earlier, it also occurred at the end of January.
