Murder inquiry launched after Amesbury novichok victim dies

It follows an incident last Saturday in which two other people were exposed to the nerve agent in Amesbury

Police suspect they were exposed through a contaminated item left over from the first attack, which Britain blames on Russian Federation.

'That is something that I think the world will unite with us in actually condemning'.

Britain and its allies accused Russian Federation of killing double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, while Russian Federation denies any involvement in the Skripals" case calling the allegations a "fake story'. Previously, Shulgin expanded on Russia's long-held thesis thatthe Novichok poisoning was an anti-Russian conspiracy.

Ms Sturgess' partner Charlie Rowley remains in a critical condition in hospital. There were only two options, she argued: either the Russians had conducted the attempted assassination, or the nerve agent had fallen into the hands of a third party.

Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow "is deeply concerned" over the poisoning cases in Britain.

"We need to establish quickly what they came into contact with and where", he said.

The British couple, Sturgess and Rowley, were found on May 30 unconscious at a house in Amesbury, Wiltshire - about 10 miles from where Skipal and his daughter were poisoned.

The police have now opened a murder investigation into Sturgess' death.

Prime Minister Theresa May said she was "appalled and shocked" by Sturgess's death.

The search is focused on their homes and a park in Salisbury.

Three other men who also travelled in the van have been tested and show no signs of having been exposed to Novichok, Mr Basu said.

It comes four months after ex-KGB agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with novichok in nearby Salisbury.

Giving the latest update on the investigation, the Metropolitan Police's Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said it is believed the latest victims received a "high dose" of the agent after handling a contaminated container.

Peskov said the investigation and what was happening in the Salisbury area was a British issue which had nothing to do with an upcoming summit between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

In April, the watchdog group Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons released a report confirming that Novichok was used in the Skripals' attack. "It's hard to escape the thought that everything was pre-planned and deliberately brought about to escalate the worldwide situation and undermine Russia's authority and its ties with other parties". Yulia said that the poisoning had turned her life "upside down" and that she and her father were "lucky to have survived this assassination attempt".

On Monday, Britain's counterterrorism chief announced that investigators had determined that it was "highly likely" that this Novichok was indeed from the same batch.
