Off-Centre Federer gives Anderson hope - Wilander

Serbia's Novak Djokovic returns against Russia's Karen Khachanov during their men's singles fourth round match on the seventh day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon southwest London on Jul

Defending champion Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal closed in on a dream Wimbledon final as the sport's two greatest players swept into the last-eight on Monday.

Federer/the Fed-express/the GOAT, has glided effortlessly into the Wimbledon quarter-finals, a place he knows better than most people know their own back garden.

Federer is a ideal 12-0 in Sets thus far and a flawless 4-0 in Matches at Wimbledon 2018. The final score in favor of Anderson: 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11.

The only other times he has surrendered a two-set lead came against Lleyton Hewitt in Switzerland's 2003 Davis Cup semi-final loss to Australia in Melbourne, to David Nalbandian in the 2005 Masters Cup decider. I think it went in spells a bit also, how I was able to return his serve.

The eighth-seeded Anderson trailed two sets to none and faced match point in the third set before staving off elimination to win the set 7-5.

Update: Federer not only dropped his first set, but his second as well.

It is one of the courts you dream about playing, Anderson said, and those sorts of matches - against the likes of Federer and Murray - are what he and his team work so hard for, why they put the hard yards in throughout opening week and the rest of the year.

Federer found himself scheduled on Court One having been ousted from his usual Centre Court domain for the first time in three years. I said today is going to be my day.

However, it was Federer who was stunningly the first to falter and Anderson took advantage to book a semifinal clash with either John Isner or Milos Raonic. The South African saved three break points before taking the set 7-5.

Novak Djokovic of Serbia returns the ball to Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation during their men's singles match on the seventh day at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London, Monday July 9, 2018.

There was still the small matter of holding serve but a 28th ace helped settle Anderson's nerves and be brought up match point with a massive forehand before completing a remarkable victory with a first serve that Federer could not handle.

After beating Monfils in a tight four-set battle, Anderson said he was exhausted after playing for three hours and 29 minutes.

They remained on serve early in the fifth set, as the match passed the three-hour mark.

Djokovic is a 12-time major champion who's been in something of a rut, due to right elbow troubles that lasted more than a year until he finally had surgery in February.

Later, Ramos warned Djokovic for a time violation, but that didn't seem to faze the Serb.
