Peter Strzok to be 'RECALLED FOR CONTEMPT' After Fiery Testimony — CAPITOL CLASH

Feds announce 57 migrant kids reunited with parents — but 46 still held

"You need to understand that that was written late at night, off the cuff, and it was in response to a series of events that included then-candidate Trump insulting the immigrant family of a fallen war hero, and my presumption based on that awful, disgusting behavior that the American population would not elect somebody demonstrating that behavior to be President of the United States".

At a congressional hearing Thursday, FBI agent Peter Strzok defended himself from attacks from GOP lawmakers that a text he sent in 2016 - in which he said that "we'll stop" then candidate-Donald Trump - proved he was biased in the Russian Federation investigation into Trump's campaign.

On Thursday, Strzok said the message was written late at night after Trump's campaign comments disparaging a slain USA soldier. Strzok, who previously met with the two panels behind closed doors, was grilled by lawmakers for 10 hours.

But the hearing was the American public's first flesh and blood view of Strzok, this key figure in the FBI's Hillary Clinton email and Russian Federation investigations - and it wasn't pretty.

"Agent Strzok had Hillary Clinton winning the White House before he finished investigating her", said Rep. Trey Gowdy, Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attacked Strzok's marathon testimony and stated those who were investigating the president's former campaign had a "pathological hatred" toward Trump.

"Would anyone sitting here today believe that this was an acceptable state of affairs, particularly at an agency whose motto is 'Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity"?

Strzok repeatedly insisted that the texts, including one in which he called Trump a "disaster", did not reflect political bias and had never infected his work.

Democratic Representative Luis Gutierrez said when it was his turn to question Strzok: "Congratulations Kremlin, and congratulations to everyone who is helping them".

Horowitz, however, concluded that the political views of those agents did not affect the conclusions of the Clinton investigation. Strzok defended himself as an unbiased agent in the conduct of his official duties, even if his texts - including one note in which he told Page that "we'll stop" Trump from becoming president - revealed he had a low opinion of Trump as candidate and president.

He said the late-night, off-the-cuff text reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behaviour" by the presidential candidate. "So, I take great offense, and I take great disagreement to your assertion of what that was or wasn't".

Strzok angrily responded, saying the "we'll stop it" text came in response to campaign occurrences such as Trump insulting the immigrant father of a fallen USA soldier. "It simply couldn't happen".

Reps. Elijah E. Cummings and Jerrold Nadler, the top Democrats on the House oversight and judiciary committees, said under House rules the minority party is allowed to demand a witness of their own. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-New Jersey, said, "I have never seen my colleagues so out of control, so angry".

"Russian interference in our elections constitutes a grave attack on our democracy", Peter Strzok told lawmakers in his prepared opening statement. Gohmert tried to shout over him and the committee chairman vainly tried to restore order.

Trump - who mocks Page and Strzok as the "FBI lovers" - blasted Page's decision not to appear Thursday in a tweet, lamenting the "corruption on the other side" and again calling out Attorney General Jeff Sessions to do something about it.

"This information had the potential to derail and quite possibly defeat Mr. Trump, but the thought of expressing that, or exposing that information never crossed my mind", Efe quoted Mr Strzok as telling to lawmakers during a congressional hearing. "This is the first time, to my knowledge, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has admitted they got parts of the dossier from Bruce Ohr, a fellow DOJ employee", Jordan explained.
