Rescued Thai boys make victory signs from hospital beds

Officials plan to rejuvenate the Forest Park and establish a museum to highlight the rescue of the Wild Boars football team

It was a wonderful day for everyone when the 12 members of the Thai soccer team, the Wild Boars, and their coach were rescued from Thailand's Tham Luang cave on Tuesday (July 10).

The Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex in Thailand - where 12 boys and their soccer coach were trapped for 18 days - will become a "living museum" to showcase the harrowing ordeal that unfolded in recent weeks as the world watched.

Another video released on Facebook by the Thai Navy SEALs, who were central to the rescue, showed one of the boys being carried through part of the muddy cave on a stretcher covered by an emergency thermal blanket.

"That is important so these children can reintegrate little by little into their old environment, because they will be very traumatised and vulnerable". Some of them, wearing surgical masks, lay on their beds.

Several boys can be seen in facemasks and hospital gowns, at least one giving a victory sign for the camera.

None of the boys was heard speaking in the clips shown at the news conference.

Chaiwetch Thanapaisal is director of Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital.

Angle warned that if the boys continue to be defined as the kids who were rescued from the cave, it could become the singular characteristic of their identities. They got far enough inside that rising floodwaters, not unusual at the cave this time of year, blocked their exit.

Parents awaiting reunion were seen crying and waving to the boys through a glass barrier meant to safeguard against potential infections. Authorities are anxious about the possibility of infections picked up in the cave.

But Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Tuesday extra precautions would have be implemented both inside and outside the cave to safeguard tourists.

"The important thing is ... personal space", Prayuth told reporters.

Heavy rains had flooded the Tham Luang cave blocking the football team in after they first entered on June 23.

On Monday, July 2, nine days after becoming trapped, a group of divers found the boys 600 yards away from Pattaya Beach, an elevated rock mound within the cave system that is oftentimes used by those inside the cave when flooding occurs.

Getting them out - which involved teaching boys as young as 11 who were not strong swimmers to dive through narrow, submerged passages - proved a monumental challenge. A former Thai Navy Seal died last Friday, highlighting the dangers.

Seals of the navy's Underwater Demolition Team struggle through a muddy training course during the annual 120-hour Hell Week at the conclusion of their one-year brutal basic training.

"We're here really looking at this as a movie that could inspire millions of people across the globe", Scott added. And the confidence of the diving team, and expertise specific to the cave, grew after its first successful mission Sunday.
