Rescued Thai football team recovering well, SE Asia News & Top Stories

With Thai soccer team freed, Hollywood gears up for the movie

The head of a Thai navy SEAL diving team that helped lead 12 boys and their soccer coach through a flooded cave complex to safety urged the boys on Thursday to "be a force for good" as the dramatic operation wound to a close. Others, including their 25-year-old soccer coach, who had been trapped in the cave along with the boys, sat in bed, their faces obscured by green surgical masks.

The boys would have to stay in the hospital for up to 10 days, hospital director Chaiwetch Thanapaisal told the news conference.

Among those hailed were the divers from the Thai navy Seals.

The first photographs of the boys recovering in a Chiang Rai hospital were released Wednesday.

The last rescued boys and their coach arrive at Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital on Tuesday in Chiang Rai, Thailand. The real heroes, he said, were the rescuers.

But Mr Volanthen dismissed the idea, adding: "We are not heroes".

Scott, who's married to a Thai woman and spends three months a year in Thailand, said they are not pressing people over the interviews. He praised the cooperation between Thai and global rescuers. Among them was Australian doctor Richard Harris.

One particular actress seems to be getting the most mentions among users.

The next day, four more were rescued after a 9-hour mission. Following protocol, the five received eye examinations, mental health checkups and were vaccinated for rabies and tetanus. "The children were well taken care of in the cave".

Doctors have said all 12 boys and their coach are in a "good condition" but remain on bed rest.

But it will still be up to a week before all of the boys can hug their mums and dads.

Parents of the second group of boys, those rescued Monday, will be allowed to make similar visits later today, according to the Health Department's deputy chief.

Elon Musk said on Twitter July 4 he was "happy to help" the Thai government in its rescue effort "if there is a way to do so", and continued to post about the rescue mission over the coming days. Wetsuits and scuba gear still hung along a walkway at the entrance Wednesday, waiting to be sorted by Thai Navy officials.

This story was first published on CNN.com, "Tears as Thai boys see parents for the first time since cave rescue".

It was Adul, the stateless descendant of a Wa ethnic tribal branch once known for headhunting, who played a critical role in the rescue, acting as interpreter for the British divers. "He loves sports, cycling and football since he was young".

The fate of the boys has even resonated as far as Russian Federation, where soccer's World Cup is reaching its final stages.

Ek is a member of the Tai Lue minority, one of several groups whose people have over generations moved around the region, across open borders in remote hills between southern China, Myanmar and Laos, and into northern Thailand's ethnic patchwork of communities. "Without him, in this operation, I don't think we could have succeeded".

"On behalf of the operation unit, we want to send our condolences to him and I do have to thank him a lot", he said.

"It's suggested that we might display photos during the 17 days of the mission, including clothes that the foreman in each operation wore on that day".
